先來看一看4am網站上的一段前言（非廣告內容）
原文：We occupied the parliament.
評析：parliament跟government一樣，是一種「體制」，不是「建築物」，所以是無法被「佔領」的。「國會大廈」要說成the parliament building，就如同市政府大樓要說成city hall而不能說成city government一樣。這句應說成We have occupied the parliament building.才對。
原文：We are students from Taiwan. We occupied the Legislative Yuan of ROC, peacefully and rationally, to defend the hard-earned democracy.
評析：
──在英文中，occupy可拿來描寫居住的狀態，如The apartment is mostly occupied by the students in the nearby university.此處顯然不是這意思，而是具有動態暗示的「佔領」，其英文解釋如下（為求慎重，我選了四本字典）：
# “to seize possession of and maintain control over by or as if by conquest.” (American Heritage Dictionary)
# “to take possession and control of (a place), as by military invasion” (Random House Dictionary)
# “to take and hold possession of, esp as a demonstration: students occupied the college buildings.” (Collins English Dictionary)
# “to take or hold possession or control of : enemy troops occupied the ridge” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)
從以上四組解釋，不難看出除了Collins字典（絕對是大腸花的首選字典囉）以外，occupy這個字在英文裡面比較偏向「武力攻佔」的意思。換言之，後面的peacefully and rationally（台灣人口頭禪：和平理性）就破功了。沒錯，你是無法用peacefully與rationally兩個字來修飾occupy的。
──Legislative Yuan語意同parliament，因此不能被「佔領」。
──前面已經講了Taiwan，後面的ROC就是多餘的。
──hard-earned democracy是「辛苦得來的民主」沒錯，但通常是指「剛剛得到的」民主。台灣實施民主制度已經二十多年了，還講hard-earned有點牽強。如果這句話用在民國初年的袁世凱復辟就很貼切了。
原文：Since 2014-03-19, tens of thousands of citizens have joined us.
評析：這裡的日期（寫法也不對）沒有特別的重要性，按照英文邏輯（時空副詞在句尾）應該擺到後頭去。
原文：It’s 4 AM in Taiwan. The constitutional democracy is sinking to its shadiest moment. Witness the coming dawn with us.
評析：
──It’s 4 AM in Taiwan.有點無厘頭。在英文裡面，如果你不說幾號，光說幾點，意思就是暗示對方（讀者/對話者）知道是哪一天。例如：
A: It’s 5 a.m. here in Tokyo. How about Taiwan?
B: It’s 4 a.m. in Taiwan right now.
雙方未說出的共識就是：談話背景是同一天。但網友上4am網站的時間不會相同，這個 “4 AM in Taiwan” 對他們來說變成「日期不明」的四點鐘，這用法在中文可以接受，在英文卻是不能接受的，因為資訊不完整。
──The constitutional democracy is sinking to its shadiest moment.顯然來自中文「民主憲政已經沈淪到最黑暗的時刻。」首先，democracy無法sink，這是錯誤的搭配語（collocation）；其次，shady除了「有遮蔭的」意義之外，就是「不合法的；搞鬼的」，而constitutional democracy本身絕不會是「不合法、搞鬼的」，你不能說constitutional democracy is shady；此外，shady所修飾的是「還沒有浮出檯面」的搞鬼，例如：I think John is dealing some shady business with our supplier.（我覺得John跟供應商在搞鬼。）至於搞什麼鬼，還沒有弄清楚。但在本案例裡面，國民黨搞什麼鬼已經清楚了，就不能用shady。
──Witness the coming dawn with us.這段話有不錯的深度，因為凌晨四點是夜晚最黑暗的時刻，而接下來就轉為黎明了。這裡有雙關語的趣味。可惜前面的爛英文抵銷了不少應有的趣味。
本段修改後成為：
We have occupied the parliament building.
We are (college) students from Taiwan. We have occupied the floor（議事廳）of the Legislative Yuan to defend democracy. Tens of thousands of citizens have joined us since March 19.
It’s 4 a.m., March 25, in Taiwan. The constitutional democracy is at stake here. We are fighting to protect it. Witness the coming dawn with us.
